Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and Lead Custodial Team: Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate custodial staff. Foster a collaborative and efficient team environment.
  • Oversee Cleaning: Develop and implement cleaning schedules and procedures for classrooms, offices, restrooms, common areas, and athletic facilities. Ensure adherence to high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Manage Building: Coordinate and perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
  • Inventory and Supplies Management: Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies, equipment, and other necessary materials. Order and ensure the efficient use of supplies within budget.
  • Safety and Security: Ensure the building is secure after hours and during events. Adhere to and enforce safety regulations and procedures. Respond to emergencies and security concerns as needed.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work effectively with school administration, faculty, and staff to address maintenance needs and ensure smooth operations.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all school policies, safety regulations, and local, state, and federal laws.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and school administration.
Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or associate's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Must be eligible to take Civil Service exam or be reachable on current Civil Service List.
  • Proven experience (typically 3-5 years) in custodial services, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and materials.
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance, including minor repairs in plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work independently.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass a background check and other required clearances, including NYS fingerprinting.
