Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, or electronic malfunctions of motorized equipment.
  • Removes and repairs gasoline or diesel internal combustion engines, including the fitting of crankshafts, pistons, pins, and bearings.
  • Removes and adjusts carburetors, distributors, etc.
  • Removes and overhauls transmissions and differentials.
  • Maintains and repairs fuel, cooling, and exhaust systems.
  • Inspects, maintains, and repairs electrical systems, electronic components, chassis units, and accessories.
  • Pre-inspects vehicles for NYS motor vehicle inspections.
  • Operates valve-grinder, drill press, lathe, welding and burning equipment, and other related tools.
  • Complies with various Occupational Safety & Health Administration laws and regulations, including reading and understanding Material Safety Data Sheets relating to hazardous materials and other substances.
  • Performs manual laboring tasks associated with maintenance, as well as maintaining related automotive records and preparing simple reports.
  • Any other tasks as requested by supervisor.

 

NOTES:

Under our existing contract Article V - Par. 6, Management is required to post vacancies in this unit for a period of five (5) working days. During that five-day period, any employee who desires to be considered for the announced job shall apply in writing to the School Business Administrator.  Consideration will be given to all qualified applicants.

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED and three (3) years of experience in the repair of automotive equipment.
  • Evidence of ability to perform tasks as outlined under responsibilities.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a P&S endorsement as appropriate for class of vehicle operated, or ability to obtain such license within six (6) months of date of hire. Upon request, will be required to drive students.
